Dogs don't always show discomfort through an obvious limp. Sometimes the changes are much more subtle.

You may notice your dog is slower on walks, reluctant to jump, struggling with stairs, sitting differently, favouring one side or simply not moving quite like they used to.

Looking carefully at your dog's movement can help identify changes in gait, posture, weight distribution and the way they are using their body. If you aren't in visiting distance of a physio or dogs who struggle with environment changes and behavioural chalanges this can be very useful for the starting point

Video Gait Analysis

I'll carefully review the videos you provide within 5 - 7 days, looking at your dog's gait, posture, movement and overall use of their body. I may also use Kinovea, a video annotation tool designed for human sport analysis but I use for Canine. It features utilities to capture, slow down, compare, annotate, track and measure motion in videos.

Professional Feedback

I'll explain what I've observed and highlight any movement patterns or changes that may be worth investigating further. This will be as a written PDF report emailed to you plus a phone call to disucss and answer any questions.

You'll receive clear, practical recommendations based on what I can see in your dog's movement.

No. An online gait analysis cannot diagnose an underlying medical condition. It allows me to assess movement from the videos you provide and give you professional guidance. If I have concerns about your dog's health or movement, I'll recommend appropriate veterinary assessment.

I'll provide you with clear filming instructions. The aim is to capture your dog's natural movement from different angles, including walking towards and away from the camera and from both sides.

That's exactly why I've created the Free Canine Wellness Check. It takes around five minutes and helps you identify changes in your dog's posture, movement, comfort and behaviour that may be worth investigating.

Online gait analysis can be useful for looking at movement during rehabilitation or following injury and surgery. However, it does not replace your veterinary surgeon's post-operative checks or instructions.

I'll explain what I've observed and recommend the most appropriate next step. This may include contacting your veterinary surgeon or arranging an in-person veterinary physiotherapy assessment where appropriate.

Online assessment isn't suitable for every situation. If your dog has sudden or severe lameness, cannot bear weight, appears to be in significant pain, has suffered an injury or has an acute change in their health, please contact your veterinary surgeon.
