Check out this video on things that happen during a session!
Introduction
Step 1: Getting to Know Your Animal
We’ll start with a friendly chat about your animal’s history, any symptoms, and any concerns you have. This first step is also a perfect time for your animal to become comfortable with me and for me to get to know them, before we begin the sessions. Dogs can have a wonder around and come up and say hi whilst we talk about them!
Dynamic Assessment
Step 2: Movement Assessment
Next, I’ll observe your animal’s movement carefully, looking for signs of lameness, discomfort, or asymmetry. This can be a walk, trot, sit to stands and circles, and can also be how they move over obstacles .This helps identify specific areas that may need attention during treatment and help make a bigger picture of your dog. Video analysis may be used to watch in slow motion.
Static and Palpation Assessment
Step 3: Standing, muscle and joint assessment
After the dynamic assessment, I will evaluate the condition of your dog’s musculoskeletal system. By combining the findings from both the dynamic and static assessments, we can pinpoint areas that need attention to enhance your dog’s comfort during treatment and exercise plans
Treatment
Step 4: Treatment
Based on the insights gathered from both the static and dynamic assessments, I’ll develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your animal's specific needs. This plan is designed to effectively reduce pain, enhance flexibility, and promote overall comfort. Treatment options may include techniques such as massage, stretching exercises, and kinesiology taping, ensuring a comprehensive approach to your pet’s recovery.
What Happens After the Appointment?
Support Through the Ups and Downs
I believe in a collaborative approach between the pet owner, your animal, and myself as the physiotherapist. Whether your dog is recovering from surgery and needs weekly treatments or is a leisure dog on a maintenance schedule, I provide comprehensive aftercare and ongoing communication to all clients between appointments. My goal is to create a supportive network, empowering you to observe your dog with a therapeutic perspective.
Rest
I recommend allowing your dog to rest for 24 hours after treatment. However, this may vary depending on individual cases, and we’ll discuss the best approach during your appointment.
Report
Following your appointment, I will send over a list of the recommendations and exercises. I am aware people can't remember everything! So the exercises will have a description of why and how. this is normally via a link in emails. I will also communicate with your vet any findings that are worth taking note of.
